Sean Nettleton makes surfboards in Byron Bay with his hands. He describes his brand as 'low volume, high quality' which, let's be honest is what you want from a board builder.
Sean's resume is broad and impressive starting out almost 20 years ago when living on the Surfcoast of Victoria working for South Coast Surfboards as a glasser. Sean stuck at glassing and quickly (is 10 years quick?) became the go to man for glassing surfboards in one of Australia's surf capitals Torquay, Victoria. Sean then went on to sub-contract for other brands such as Maurice Cole, Wayne Lynch, Gash, Strapper and Corey Graham but it was Dave Boyd at Imperial Surfboards that had the most profound effect on Sean as a then glasser. Dave educated Sean on the intricacies of surfboard design and building and though he had shaped boards over the years this proved to be the catalyst and launch of Sean's one man show.
Sean now resides in Byron Bay with his young family and designs, shapes, glasses and hand signs every single board in his shaping bay in the Byron Hinterlands.
If you have ever seen or held one in your hands you can feel not only that it is made by a maker with 20 years experience but that it is a considered and functional surfboard worth paying money for. Just ask one of the most graceful female long boarders and friend of PS Belinda Baggs who has been riding Sean's boards since day dot.
We love Nettleton Surfboards and if you're ever in the market for a log, longboard, fish, mid-length, shortboard or anything in between then you can get in touch with Sean directly (yep straight to the man himself) about your next board HERE (after some insta-stalking HERE) you will not regret it.
